People who want to prove that the Da Vinci Code is pure fiction refer to Paul Smith and his website "www.priory-of-sion.com. Who is this man? I doubt he is real. His name is most common, in fact anonymus. He is only referred to as "an english researcher". Bu everyone can call him/herself a researcher. There is no sign of him appearing in person: no googlehits about lectures or documentaries. Although he is presented as an authority on the subject, he never seems to have...

So ludicrous was the claim made in Da Vinci Code that English was considered la lingua pura and used extensively throughout the Middle Age. Dan Brown seems to claim that this was the language of the Priory. Seemingly an attempt to push linguistic supremacy for English a millenium earlier !

Latin and French were the tongues most members of European aristocracy, elites, knights, clergy, and scholars spoke. English did not become one of major European languages until 18th...

Now, I have said before in a few places that 'just because something isn't widely known, doesn't make it a secret'. So I will recount an issue that 'isn't widely known'. It is said, certainly not in books such as Dan Browns or even in the Holy Blood, Holy Grail, that the line of David is known, and that there is an individual out there, called 'Henri D'Avignon'. This is I admit a whipser, but certainly not a new one. Avignon, the walled city, has a significant past in that it was the home of...

other Priory of Sion groups?

Hello, I know that the Priory of Sion that Pierre Plantard invented in the 20th century was a hoax, but weren't there other groups in the past calling themselves the "Priory of Sion" or something similar? I know these groups bear no resemblance to the fictional, Grail-protecting secret society in the Da Vinci Code, but I was curious what they were actually about. Anyone have any information on these?

Pierre Athanase Marie Plantard (1920-February 3, 2000) was the mastermind behind the Priory of Sion hoax. The Priory of Sion was originally founded in 1956, when Plantard worked as a draughtsman for a company in the town of Annemasse, in the Haute-Savoie region of south-east France. Devoted to the "Defence and Liberty of Low-Cost Housing", the association attacked the property developers of Annemasse through its journal Circuit.

He became an impostor who claimed to be a...
